A BOF for people currently involved in, or looking to be involved in developing Standard Operating Environments in Linux.

Matthew Lye works for Griffith University managing linux environments. His experience is largely based around Ubuntu and is a Ubuntu Member and involved in many Ubuntu community teams and projects.

I maintain a Ubuntu SOE and teach Linux/Unix admin for the Queensland University of Technology, School of IT. Initially we had a dedicated lab for teaching linux/unix administration, this lab used KVM to have multiple VM's where students setup networks, network services, etc.
Starting in 2010 this environment gets deployed to all School of IT labs and goes mainstream, so now it needs to integrate with various QUT things, something I am working on right now. I am hoping someone at this BOF can help me get CUPS to speak kerberos to AD :)

At Credit Union South, I have deployed a new Debian based desktop. This provides terminal access to their core banking system, browser, email, OpenOffice.org etc. in a Gnome environment.
The system is a thin client setup with 4 terminal servers using the low bandwidth NX protocol to provide the desktop over WAN links to (eventually) 14 branches. FreeNX is used on the servers, and the clients are HP t5000s with a custom debian install using the flashybrid debian package and the nomachine NX client.
The server configurations are managed using puppet to keep them in sync, and server resources are managed with pacemaker/OpenAIS, although this is the part I am least happy with currently, as it would need significantly more work to get it right. Storage is currently NFS onto a couple of pairs of servers using DRBD to synchronise the disks. We will go to "propper" network storage if and when this no longer cuts it.
There are also the inevitable windows servers, and we are using 2X to publish windows applications to the linux desktop, mainly Avaya phone manager, and IE for some active x type sites that need to be accessed.
