Penny Leach has been working on Open Source Education Projects for more than 5 years, and has been involved in Mahara since it began in 2006. She was one of the 2009 recipients of the Google/O'Reilly Open Source Awards as "Best Education Hacker".

Richard Mansfield is a core developer on the Mahara project. He has been contributing to the project on and off since its beginning in 2006. Recently he has been working on new features for the Mahara's upcoming 1.2 release including portfolio tagging, Moodle integration, and improvements to the files area.
